White House - no deal on budget

The White House has said no decision has been made on budget provisions after discussions with senior Republicans.

Urgent efforts to prevent an economically devastating national default had earlier risen and then retreated as Republicans softened their long-standing demands and the White House appeared agreeable to a compromise, only for Senate Democrats to declare it unacceptable.
