A Jordanian MP opened fire on a colleague with an automatic rifle in a corridor at parliament over a personal dispute.

Previously during heated debates, members of the Chamber of Deputies have hurled shoes and bottled water at each other. This was the first time a gun has been fired.

Over the summer, a deputy tried to point his gun at another during a televised debate but was overpowered by colleagues.

Weapons are officially banned inside parliament.

Two MPs who saw the incident said action will be taken against the shooter, who fired several shots. It includes lifting his immunity and handing him over to police.

The names of all four could not be published under parliamentary rules.
