At least 26 killed in Iraq attacks

At least 26 people have been killed and dozens of others injured in a wave of bombings in Shiite Muslim areas in and around Baghdad, Iraqi officials said.

Four police officers said the attacks involving explosives-laden cars, bombs and suicide bombers targeted car parks, outdoor markets and restaurants in six of the capital’s predominantly Shiite neighborhoods.

The areas hit included Kazimiyah, Sadr City, Shaab, Shula, Jamila and Mahmoudiyah.

Four medical officials confirmed the casualty figures.

The attacks are part of a wave of killings that is the country’s worst spate of bloodshed since 2008.

More than 3,000 people have died in recent months.
