Israeli PM pledges to hold referendum on any potential peace agreement

The Israeli Prime Minister has pledged to hold a referendum on any peace agreement reached with Palestine.

Benjamin Netanyahu's promise would be the first referendum in Israel's history.

It follows yesterday's announcement by US Secretary of State John Kerry that both sides of the conflict have agreed in principle to resume peace talks in Washington.

Two Israeli cabinet ministers have already come out against the planned negotiations - saying there should be no halt on settlement-building in Palestinian territories.
