Mandela responding to touch says daughter

The South African President said that Nelson Mandela's condition is 'improving' and he's 'much better' today than he was last night.

Jacob Zuma said the former President remains in a critical but stable condition at a Pretoria hospital.

Mandela's daughter Makaziwe has been speaking to SABC - and said he is responding to touch.

She said that she is encouraged that he is able to communicate with his family.

"For us as his children and grandchildren we still have this hope because when you talk to him he will flutter trying to open his eyes, and he will open his eyes" she said.

"When you touch him he still responds."
