'Pray for Mandela', says South African president

South Africa’s president urged the country to pray for critically ill Nelson Mandela, describing him as the “father of democracy” who made extraordinary sacrifices on behalf of his people.

Jacob Zuma said Mr Mandela was “asleep” when he visited the 94-year-old in hospital.
