New wave of car bombings and shooting kills 24 in Iraq
At least 24 people have been killed and dozens more were wounded after 10 apparently coordinated car bombings and a shooting took place across Iraq.
Police say most of Sunday’s car bombs hit Shia-majority areas, killing 20.
The blasts hit cities and towns in the south and centre of the country: Basra, Kut, Nasiriyah, Hillah, Najaf, Mahmoudiya and Madain.
The shooting happened near the restive northern city of Mosul. Police officials say gunmen attacked police guarding a remote stretch of an oil pipeline, killing four and wounding five.
Medical officials confirmed the casualty figures.
