Merkel pledges €100m in aid to flood victims

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has pledged €100m in emergency aid for flood-ravaged areas.

The flooding has claimed at least 11 lives and forced thousands of evacuations across Europe.

Merkel said that the emergency aid would be disbursed in an unbureaucratic way because 'what's important now is that the aid quickly reaches the people'.

Germany, already hit by its worst floods in decades, is braced for worse to come as masses of river water flowed down the Vltava which merges with the Elbe River.
