Syrian President threatens renewed conflict

The Syrian President has threatened Israel with renewed fighting in the Golan Heights.

In an interview Basher Al Assad has also said Russia is committed to supplying him with weapons.

The US has warned that any such weapon deliveries from Moscow would only prolong the conflict in which an estimated 94,000 people have died March 2011.

But speaking through a translator in an interview on Syrian State Television, Mr Assad said he has the support of his people to begin war with Israel.

"If they want to retaliate against Israel the retaliation must be a strategic retaliation, and there is enthusiasm," he said.

"Resistance is not a simple, it's not only opening geographic lines, it is political, ideological and also has a social angle."
