Explosion rocks central Kabul; gun battle in city

A powerful explosion has sent smoke rising over the heart of the Afghan capital Kabul. It was felt several miles away.

An Associated Press cameraman who witnessed today’s blast said it was near a hospital for the National Security Directorate, the state intelligence service.
