NRA leader warns members of 'culture war'

The incoming leader of the National Rifle Association told its grass-roots organisers yesterday they are the front line of a “culture war” that goes beyond gun rights.

The 64-year-old lawyer’s comments come after he branded Barack Obama a “fake president” and are likely to enflame an already explosive national debate over gun control.

James Porter assumes the presidency on Monday after the group’s national convention finishes, and take over as the NRA finds itself in fights over gun control in Washington DC and in state capitols.
