Seven killed in Syrian rocket attack

At least seven people have been killed in a rocket attack by government forces on a village near the central city of Homs, Syrian activists said today.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the attack on the village of Eastern Buwaydah took place this morning and children were among the dead.

Eastern Buwaydah is located between Homs and the Lebanese border.

Observatory director Rami Abdul-Rahman reported heavy fighting in the area today between government troops and rebels trying to topple President Bashar Assad’s regime.

More than 70,000 people have been killed in the Syrian conflict since it began in March 2011.
