Reality show contestant dies in Cambodia

A tough French reality television show has been cancelled after a 25-year-old participant died of a heart attack on the first day of filming.

'Koh Lanta', filmed in Cambodia, asks participants to complete physical challenges, often to win food, and contestants are gradually voted off the show as the weeks progress.

Television station TF1 canceled the 16th series of it after the death of Gerard Babin. The other contestants have returned to France.

A contestant from a previous season said they were shocked at the tragedy, saying medical staff were always on hand and the show was a “rolling hospital”.

TF1 has not released details about what the contestants were doing when Mr Babin died.
