Toll rises in Brazil mudslides
At least 13 people have been killed in mudslides triggered by torrential rains in a mountain town north of Rio de Janeiro, state officials said.
A month’s worth of precipitation – about 14in of rain – fell in 24 hours in Petropolis, a Brazilian town of around 300,000 nestled in mountains about 40 miles north of Rio, where floods killed more than 900 people two years ago.
