Zuma re-elected as ANC chief

South African president Jacob Zuma has been elected to remain head of the governing African National Congress political party.

The announcement came at the ANC’s Mangaung conference, being held in the city also known as Bloemfontein.

Mr Zuma faced a challenge from deputy president Kgalema Motlanthe.

The 70-year-old had been considered the favourite to beat his deputy, despite being trailed by corruption allegations.

Around 4,000 delegates voted in the ANC’s leadership contest.
