Man charged with murders of police officers

A man named Dale Cregan has been charged with the murders of police officers Fiona Bone and Nicola Hughes in Manchester on Tuesday.

The 29-year-old is due to appear in court tomorrow, also accused of the murders of David and Mark Short, and the attempted murders of four others.

Chief Constable Sir Peter Fahy said that they still want to speak to any witnesses:

"I would ask that anybody who has got any information about the murders of our two officers or the other murders, would those people look to their consciences and come forward".

Meanwhile, a man arrested over an offensive Facebook page set up following the officers' deaths has been released on bail.

The 22-year-old from Merseyside has been freed while investigations continue.
