Cambodia to deport Pirate Bay founder

A Swedish founder of file-sharing site The Pirate Bay is to be expelled from Cambodia as soon as the country’s interior minister gives his approval.

Cambodian deputy national police chief Sok Phal said the decision to expel Gottfrid Svartholm Warg came after visiting Swedish officials presented legal documents on the case against him today.

He and three Pirate Bay colleagues were sentenced to one year in prison in 2009 and ordered to pay 30 million kronor (€2.85m) to major entertainment companies for copyright violations.

Svartholm Warg failed to show up at an appeal hearing in 2010.

He was arrested last Thursday at the request of Swedish authorities at a home he had rented in Cambodian capital Phnom Penh.
