President orders inquiry into deaths of protest miners

The President of South Africa has ordered an inquiry into the deaths of 34 miners who were shot dead by police on Thursday.
Jacob Zuma made the announcement during a visit to the mine in Marikana today where he described the killings as "tragic and regrettable".
The workers were on strike in a dispute over pay and it's believed the police officers moved in after they refused to give up their weapons.
President Zuma has paid this tribute to the victims and their families:
"Our thoughts are primarily with the families of those who have lost their lives, we offer our sincere condolences" he said
"Our thoughts are also with those who are recovering in hospitals and clinics".
