German chancellor Angela Merkel told Canadians her country was committed to doing everything it could to maintain the euro and renewed her call for fiscal discipline.

Mrs Merkel, who was in Ottawa for two days of meetings with prime minister Stephen Harper, praised Canada for not “living on borrowed money” and said it should serve as a model for Europe.
