The Pentagon has revealed that a gunman suspected of killing six people at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin was a former US Army "psychological operations specialist".

The Pentagon has revealed that a gunman suspected of killing six people at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin was a former US Army "psychological operations specialist".

Wade Michael Page, who was shot dead by police during the incident, served in the US army between 1992 and 1998.

The 40-year-old allegedly went on a shooting spree at the religious site in the town of Oak Creek yesterday morning.

Three of the shooting victims remain in critical condition in hospital.
