UN Security Council extends Syrian observer mission for 30 days

The UN security council's agreed to extend its observer mission in Syria for a further 30 days.

Intense fighting has been continuing in the capital, and rebels claim to have captured several checkpoints along the borders with Iraq and Turkey.
