19 killed in South Africa level crossing crash

Nineteen people have been killed and 24 others injured after a train hit a truck at a level crossing in eastern South Africa.

Emergency services spokesman Jeffrey Wicks said the accident in the Mpumalanga province involved a truck carrying farm workers.

Police say they are investigating the cause of the accident.

Mpumalanga community spokesman Joseph Mabuza described the scene as “gruesome”, with several bodies scattered around. He said it is unknown how many workers were in the truck at the time.
