Nine dead, four missing in Alps avalanche

A climber trying to scale Mont Blanc accidentally caused a slab of ice to snap off, sparking an avalanche high in the French Alps which swept nine European climbers to their deaths, authorities said.

Eleven other climbers were taken to hospital and at least four were still unaccounted for.
