Egypt’s Islamist-dominated parliament has convened in defiance of a ruling by the country’s highest court dissolving the legislature.

Speaker Saad el-Katatni told politicians gathered for Tuesday’s session that the legislature had met to find ways to implement the ruling rather than debate it out of respect for the principle of “the supremacy of the law and separation of authorities”.
