Obama welcomes Beckham and team-mates at White House

David Beckham and his LA Galaxy team-mates have been welcomed at the White House after their Major League Soccer title triumph.

President Barack Obama joked that the 37-year-old is a "young up and comer".

It wasn't the only playful dig at the age of the former England captain:

"half his team mates could be his kids, we're getting old David although you're holding up better than me", he said

"It is rare man who can be that tough on the field and also have his own line of underwear".
