An Islamist group has claimed responsibility for two suicide bombings that killed at least 55 people and wounded hundreds more in Syria on Thursday.

Al-Nusra Front has said the attacks were revenge for the bombings of residential areas in several locations in the country.

Meanwhile, the United Nations has said 145 of its planned 300 observers are now in Syria.
