Two buses collided head-on and fell into a ditch in northern India today, killing 20 people and injuring 25 others.

The Press Trust of India news agency said 15 passengers died at the scene on the outskirts of Gorakhpur, a town 170 miles east of Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh state. Another five died in hospital.

District administrator Ravindra Naik said that at least six of the injured were in critical condition.
