Bail set for Trayvon accused
The man charged with murdering black US teenager Trayvon Martin has had bail set at $150,000 (€114,000).
Earlier, George Zimmerman issued an apology to the dead youth’s parents during a Florida bail hearing.
Neighbourhood watch volunteer Zimmerman made a brief statement from the witness stand during proceedings to determine whether he should be released on bail while he awaits trial on second-degree murder charges.
Zimmerman told Trayvon’s parents that he was “sorry for the loss of your son”.
He added he did not know that Martin was 17 and that he was unarmed during their altercation in a central Florida neighbourhood.
Zimmerman, 28, shot Martin the night of February 26. He claims the teenager attacked him.
