Iran halts oil exports to Spain

Iran has reportedly stopped oil exports to Spain.

The report from the semi-official Mehr news agency quotes unnamed sources as saying the country has stopped the sale of crude to Spain as part of Tehran’s pre-emptive retaliation over an EU embargo that is to go into effect in July.

The embargo was imposed over Tehran’s controversial nuclear programme.

Mehr said Iran may also cut its oil exports to Italy, saying that Tehran has contacted Italian refineries, demanding they agree to long term contracts to buy oil from Iran.

Earlier on Tuesday, Iran said the country had halted oil sales to Greece, joining Britain and France on an embargo list.

The west suspects Tehran of pursuing nuclear weapons, a charge Iran denies.
