A 28-year-old surfer suffered injuries on his left foot after a 10-foot shark bit him.
Joshua Holley was paddling off the North Shore on the Hawaiian island of Oahu when he felt something on his foot.
Honolulu lifeguard operations chief Jim Howe told the Honolulu Star-Advertiser that the shark came up to Mr Holley, bit him and let go, and then bit him again.
He said Mr Holley fought off the shark with his surf board and got a good look at it. Mr Holley believes it was a tiger shark.
Mr Howe told Hawaii News Now that Mr Holley was treated on the beach before being taken to Wahiawa General Hospital.
Mr Holley is due to have minor surgery.
