Murdoch steps down as chairman of BSkyB

James Murdoch has stepped down as chairman of satellite broadcaster BSkyB.

James Murdoch has stepped down as chairman of satellite broadcaster BSkyB.

Mr Murdoch, who relinquished his role as News International executive chairman in February, said in a letter - he did not want continued focus on the phone hacking scandal to affect BSkyB.

John Whittingdale is the chairman of the Commons Culture, Media and Sport committee:

"...I had expected that he would have stepped down at the time when it was announced that he was returning to New York, and its perhaps a little surprising that it's taken this long"
