Former US Marine says he deserves death penalty
A former US Marine has told investigators he deserves the death penalty for the fatal stabbing of four California homeless men as part of a planned killing spree and says he believed he has the “killer gene”.
A copy of a grand jury transcript shows an investigator interviewed Itzcoatl Ocampo following his arrest in connection with the murders in December and January.
Ocampo is also accused of killing his high school friend’s mother and brother in October.
The transcript shows he told an investigator in February he committed those murders.
He was indicted on six counts of murder in February and has pleaded not guilty.
The district attorney has not yet decided whether to seek the death penalty.
