Red Cross begins evacuations of women and children from Homs

The International Red Cross has started moving women and children from the worst-hit areas of the city Homs in Syria.

The International Red Cross has started moving women and children from the worst-hit areas of the city Homs in Syria.

The women and children are being taken from Baba Amr, a neighbourhood in the beseiged city which has come under severe fire from government troops.

The charity says it is talking to the authorities, and to opposition groups, to ensure that the evacuations can continue.

Carla Haddad, from the International Red Cross, said: "The idea is to be able to evacuate all of the wounded and sick, all of those who are in a desperate situation."
