Murder probe in Britain after 13-year-old girl dies

A murder investigation was under way in the UK today following the death of a 13-year-old girl who was assaulted.

Emergency services were called to the Elmfield Park area of Doncaster yesterday afternoon following reports that a girl had been attacked.

She was treated at the scene by police and paramedics, before being taken by ambulance to Doncaster Royal Infirmary.

South Yorkshire Police confirmed last night she had died from her injuries and a murder investigation had been launched.

A 26-year-old woman has been arrested and remains in police custody.

Police said the attack had been reported to them by the girl herself, who raised the alarm just before 1.20pm.

It is understood the girl had been stabbed.
