A 6.0 magnitude earthquake has struck Japan today.

The tremor hit the eastern and north-eastern part of the country at around 3.21pm local time (6.21 Irish time).

No tsunami warning was issued and there are no reports of any major damage or injuries. No additional damage was reported at the Fukushima nuclear plant.

It comes almost a year after a 9.0-magnitude earthquake struck the country last March, triggering a monster tsunami that killed more than 19,000 people.
