A spokesman for the Red Crescent organisation in the country, Saleh Dabbakeh, has said their workers are risking their lives to bring medicine and supplies to people in places like Homs.

For a seventh day the city is being fired on by the government.

Residents of the besieged city have said they are preparing to die as anti-President al-Assad activists now fear a ground assault from troops.

There are concerns the country is spiralling towards an all-out civil war.

Activists in Homs have said they are surrounded.
