Around 20,000 passengers across Europe and Africa have been left stranded after the collapse of Spain's fourth-largest airline, Spanair.

Hundreds of flights were cancelled after the company stopped operating this weekend.

The Spanish government is reported to be taking legal action against Spanair, which could result in a fine of millions of euros.

The airline had routes out of Dublin, but it is not believed that any Irish people were affected by the collapse.
