Pensioner found murdered at cottage
A murder probe has been launched after the body of an elderly woman was discovered at a cottage in Britain.
The woman, in her 70s, was found dead at the property on the outskirts of Bewdley in Worcestershire on Wednesday morning.
West Mercia Police said officers attended the address after a friend of the pensioner was unable to contact her and became concerned for her welfare.
An incident room has been set up to investigate the death, with more than 40 police staff working on the case.
The road leading to the cottage was cordoned off last night, and a police van was parked at the entrance to the track, blocking access to vehicles and pedestrians.
A barman in the town centre, who asked not to be named, said: “This is a small place so the news is all over town.
The force spokeswoman said: “There is a heavy police presence in the area and officers are studying CCTV footage as well as carrying out door-to-door inquiries.”1.
