A man accused of murdering a mother of three in 2004 has appeared in court after being extradited from Ireland yesterday.

Police believe 43-year-old Martin Stafford killed Michelle Gunshon, who disappeared in Birmingham.

Ms Gunshon, then aged 38 and living in Mill Hill, north London, vanished after travelling to Birmingham to work as a security guard during a fashion event at the city’s National Exhibition Centre.

Despite extensive inquiries by West Midlands Police, Ms Gunshon has never been found and her disappearance is being treated as a murder inquiry.

Stafford was remanded in custody ahead of his next court appearance in Birmingham on Friday.
