Karzai cancels Downing St visit

Afghan President Hamid Karzai has cancelled tomorrow’s visit to the UK, Downing Street confirmed tonight.

The decision to pull out of talks with UK Prime Minister David Cameron was taken after a series of bombings in the country in the first serious resurgence of sectarian violence in a decade.

At least 56 Shiite worshippers were killed by a suicide bomber at a mosque in the city while four more Shiites were killed in a second bombing.
