Emma West, 34, appeared at Croydon Magistrates’ Court in south London charged with a racially aggravated public order offence, a spokesman for British Transport Police (BTP) said.

She was arrested yesterday after the footage was posted on YouTube.

The clip, which was apparently filmed on the Croydon to Wimbledon Tramlink route, has been viewed by thousands of people after appearing online on Sunday.

West, of New Addington, was remanded in custody and is due to appear at the court again on December 6.

The video trended on Twitter under the #mytramexperience hashtag and has been viewed over 2m times on YouTube.
