Young males make up 81% of the number of young people killed on EU roads, according to figures from the European Transport Safety Council.

The council's figures state that young people aged 15 to 30 represent 20% of the total EU population, but account for a third of all road deaths.

The report notes that in Ireland deaths amongst 18-24 year old road users are particularly problematic.
