The director of Japan's troubled Fukushima nuclear power plant is stepping down because of illness.

The director of Japan's troubled Fukushima nuclear power plant is stepping down because of illness.

Masao Yoshida has been on site at the plant since it was hit by a massive earthquake and tsunami in March.

Some of its reactors were left in meltdown in the worst nuclear accident since the 1986 Chernobyl disaster.

Officials are refusing to say what is wrong with Mr Yoshida.
