Thousands of Australians trapped by floods

Thousands of Australians have been trapped by rising floodwaters which left one child dead as residents in the country's west began returning to their homes after wildfires.

Officials said the New South Wales town of Wee Waa, 570 kilometres from Sydney, would be cut off for up to one week by the flooding.
