Merkel: EU must quickly agree treaty changes

The German Chancellor Angela Merkel has said the European Union must agree to make treaty changes quickly.

Ms Merkel told a business conference it is the only way to deal with the Eurozone debt crisis and regain market confidence.

She has signalled the issue will be dealt with at the next EU summit on December 9.

Last week Taoiseach Enda Kenny travelled to Berlin where he told Dr Merkel that Ireland was not in favour of changes to EU treaties.
