Police braced for Athens protest

Thousands of police are being deployed in Athens today for an annual protest march set to showcase the strength of feeling over the financial crisis.

Anti-austerity protesters angered by nearly two years of harsh belt-tightening are expected to turn out in strength in the march to the US embassy in Athens. Some 7,000 police will be on duty.
