A Russian spacecraft carrying an American and two Russians has blasted off successfully from the Kazakh steppes on a mission to the International Space Station.

The Soyuz TMA-22 lifted off as scheduled from the Russian-leased Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.
