ANC punishes youth leader for 'sowing disunity'

South Africa’s governing African National Congress (ANC) has suspended its youth leader for five years for sowing intolerance and disunity by criticising the president and his policies.

Today’s action, announced live on national television, followed months during which the ANC seemed unwilling to crack down on Julius Malema, who is seen as a kingmaker in South Africa.
