Flight with engine problem diverted

A London-bound flight from Singapore landed safely in Dubai after being diverted due to an engine problem, Qantas Airways said.

The Australian airline said the flight crew noticed a problem with the oil quantity in one of the A380s four engines.

The crew shut down the engine and diverted the flight to Dubai today.

None of the 258 passengers - among them actor Stephen Fry, who tweeted updates to his Twitter followers - or 25 crew was hurt.

Engineers are inspecting the plane to see whether it can continue to London.

Exactly a year ago, another Qantas A380 had a midair engine explosion after take-off from Singapore.

Many A380s were grounded so a troubled engine part could be replaced.

Qantas spokeswoman Olivia Wirth said the two incidents were unrelated.
