Floods kill hundreds in Thailand

Travellers are being warned to avoid the Thai capital Bangkok after the city was hit by flooding.

The floods have already killed more than 350 people in other parts of the country.

Evacuations have been ordered in some districts and ome residents are using rafts, inner tubes and empty oil barrels to sail over the flood waters.

The city's fate rests on three key flood barriers.

Bangkok local Wanthawat Songsirisri fears the flood defences are not up to the job.

Mr Songsirisri said: "The TV news map shows that the Chao Phraya river is as tiny as a straw - but there's too much water flowing through it.

"I don't think the government can handle it."
